2026 Community Water Supply

Colta Monjas Water Distribution System

We are excited to partner with Chris and Samantha Visscher missionaries in Ecuador. They work with an Ecuadorian NGO called CODEINSE / Commission to Every Nation. We are seeking to raise partner funding for a water project located in Ecuador.

This project will serve Colta Monjas where a rural communities 40 families struggle daily with the urgent need for clean, safe water. The community's water source was a shallow well nestled below the village, which yielded water so contaminated that they needed a treatment plant to be able to drink the water, but the treatment plant that they had installed couldn't make the water drinkable. This failure has caused health issues to persist, with children frequently missing school due to illness, and men and women losing valuable workdays to sickness. Yet, the spirit of the community remains unbroken; they are eager to put “their hands to the plow” and take ownership of their future. All they need is the right guidance and tools to effect change that will last a lifetime.
The construction of the project will begin with the spring capture. The spring, located in the hills above the community, will be captured in a way that ensures the fresh, mountain spring, water will be captured and conveyed directly to each home. Each family in the community will contribute $60 to cover a portion of the skilled labor costs and will work in "minga", covering the vast majority of the manual labor. "Minga" is a Quichua word meaning a community workday, each household is required (by the community) to send one member of the household out each day to work on the water project. Once the project is complete the community will take complete ownership of the system, forming a community water board, naming a water system maintenance person, and charging a nominal water use tariff to cover future maintenance costs.

The project team will consist of 40 community members + 3 CODEINSE builders
